A Fresh Fresh Start at New College!

9th January 2006

Leicester NUT has been heartened by the approach taken by the new executive principal of New College, David Kershaw. His consultative approach is in stark contrast to the confrontational stance taken by recent principals at the college, who have failed to recognise and deal with problems that staff and unions have been telling them about for years. Small improvements seem to already be taking place and we hope that the new substantive principal, Jane Brown, will build on the work that David has started when she takes up her post in the near future.

The NUT would now like to see abandoned the idea that New College should become a City Academy. If one of the criteria for recommending academy status (namely poor performance) starts to show improvement, then we believe that the LEA and City Council should immediately drop all plans to turn the College into an academy.
