Are you making the most of your membership benefits?
Belonging to the NEU is not just a way to get involved in campaigning and affecting change in education. Neither is it just an insurance policy when things go wrong. The union is run by members, for members.
You can take part in local meetings and/or conferences, attend a wide range of training, and give or receive support at work. You'll receive a copy of the national magazine, Educate, and the local newsletter, City Educationalist, so you can keep in touch with local and national news and events. If you provide your email address, you'll get updates on training and campaigns. There are a host of other benefits too!
Did you know that through your membership of the NEU, you and /or your family may be entitled to financial support in the event of the following occurring whilst at work?
• Injury as a result of workplace violence
• Hospitalisation through an occupational accident
• Damage to personal property
• Damage to motor vehicle
Visit https://neu.org.uk/neu-insurance for details. I used this service when my bag was taken from my classroom, and was supported without fuss.
Check out https://neu.org.uk/neu-rewards for details on the following:
• Indemnity insurance, for private tuition outside your main employment through Alan Boswell Group
• Discounts on home, car and travel insurance through Cornmarket
• Gift cards, vouchers and discount codes through Edenred
• Financial advice from Lighthouse
• Mortgages and saving through Teachers Building Society
You'll need to set up a MyNEU account, which is just your membership number and a password, but then it's really easy to use.
If you're a musician, you might want to look into a reduced rate for joint membership of the NEU and the Musicians' Union. There are more details on the NEU website.
Finally, while you're off work on maternity or paternity leave, did you know that your subscription rate is reduced for that year? For the period you are on maternity/ paternity leave, you pay no subscription fee. Phone membership on 0345 811 8111 to let them know the
dates, and they'll do the rest for you.
Get involved and find out more! Come to our next district meeting on 18th September.
