At least three more city academies proposed for Leicester
Despite the fact that Leicester NUT thought it was engaged in an honest discussion with the Local Authority over the implementation of its strategy for improving education in Leicester, it seems that they have secretly been planning at least three more city academies in Leicester.
If the proposals go ahead, Riverside, Fullhurst and Babington Community Colleges would be replaced with privately run academies outside of local democratic control.
Teachers in Bolton and Derby have recently taken strike action in opposition to the opening of academies in their areas. At the association meeting on May 21st, City of Leicester NUT will be debating an emergency motion to begin our campaign against the opening of any more academies in Leicester.
