Safety Committees & Representatives
Leicester CYPS require all schools and settings to have a safety committee comprised of management and employee representatives. Normally professional associations who have members in a school would expect to have a representative on the committee. In the case of the NUT this should be the Union Safety Representative.
CYPS have recently recognised the value of the work of School Safety Representatives and confirmed that they have signed up to the HSE School Safety Representatives Charter. The vital role that Safety Representatives play in the effective management of H&S cannot be over emphasised.
Does your school have a Safety Committee? Is the NUT represented on the committee, preferably by the NUT Safety Rep? If the answer to either of these questions is no, and your school management is unwilling to remedy the situation, please contact the Union office for support.
If your school does not have an NUT H&S rep than why not consider volunteering for this important and rewarding role?
