Supply Teaching through agencies continues to be a free for all

We understand that supply agencies in Leicester and Leicestershire are receiving letters to say that their rate of pay will be cut to £120 per day! Schools are apparently to be charged £160 per day so the agencies will pocket the difference. When questioned, their excuse was that one agency has reduced its payments to teachers with corresponding reductions to schools and so the others are following suit or facing not getting any work! Leicester NUT is continuing to push at every opportunity for a central supply pool with teachers paid according to national pay scales and with pension contributions. It illustrates the direction that all teachers could be travelling in if Gove succeeds in doing away with national pay scales.
